Are you interested in Chartering your boat?
What you need to know -
What you will need to do is write up a
description of your boat - that is: make, year, how it is rigged and
any special features, a photo would be great too if you have one.
You get to select the fee that you would
like to charge. You are responsible for bringing the boat to
MBBC prior to the event, and you need to make sure that everything is
in working order. If we find that that something doesn't work on
the boat, we will fix it and deduct that money from your charter fee
(for example - if you are advertising it as a nearly new, perfect boat
and the backstay line is badly worn, we will replace the line and
the cost will come out of the charter fee. If you
would like, we can suggest a fair charter fee for your boat, but you
can ask what you want. We don't take any charter
"commissions" except that if you ask $1500 for the charter
there is a small transaction fee so you might only see $1470. We
are doing all transactions by paypal, creditcard, or wire transfer in
advance and there is a 3% transaction fee.
Insurance is mandatory and the
premium is $150. This will be paid by the charterer.
This covers "collision" insurance for your boat and
"liability" insurance if the charterer of your boat hits and
damages another boat. The insurance value is up to $17,000.
If you feel that the value of your boat (less sails, trailer, and
covers are more than $17,000 you may purchase insurance for an
additional $40 that covers a replacement value from $17,000 to
$30,000. This $40 would come out of your charter fee - so you should
factor that into the fee. This is your choice, I can't tell you
what the replacement value of your boat is, but I know they are not
cheap.
Sails are not part of the charter unless
you want to make a private deal with the owner to charter your sails
as well. They also need to pay a $500 damage deposit. The
deductable is $250 per incident and they need to maintain a $500
deposit to continue sailing. If there is damage one day or they
break the spin pole, they need to pay for the damage (or $250
whichever is less) to continue sailing.
Assuming that you charge $1500, the
charter would pay $1500 + $150 + $500 and he would get the $500
returned to him provided there is no damage. Once the charter
pays the charter fee, we will pay you half the charter fee when we
receive it and the other half (less the transaction charges and any
maintenance fees) when you pick up the boat. If you want to
leave the boat in VT until the Leaf Peeper, we can arrange that.
The charterers will be required to de-rig and pack up the boat.
We will have a team of people who will
take photos and catalogue the condition of the boat when it arrives
and then the boat will be checked over daily after sailing. Normal
dings, scratches and normal wear and tear are to be expected and are
not covered by insurance and are expected as part of the deal.
We are not responsible for the boat during
the regatta, so if you want to make an arrangement wth someone to keep
an eye on your boat, you should do that. You will need to leave
all the safety gear (except life jackets) with the boat (Paddle,
bucket, compass, throwable w/whistle, anchor w/ 50' of line).
You will also need to arrange for someone to store your covers while
you are away. We don't have room for them on site at the club
during the regatta.
