September 12, 2009
The only thing we practiced today
is towing boats to and from the course.
James Crane, from Darien,
Connecticut, along with crew Brenda Crane, and Tom Allen Jr., saved the best for
last. Going into the last leg of the last race, there were 16 boats between
them and the finish line. Crane and his crew decided it was time for an all or
nothing move and sailed to the far right corner of the course. The move paid
off huge as they passed everyone ahead of them, winning the final race, and with
it, the 2009 International Lightning Masters Championship. Crane also won the
first race of the final day, finishing with 9 total points for the regatta.
Bill Mauk, from Miami, Florida finished second with 11 points. Peter Hall from
Montreal, Quebec finished third with 15 points.
1700 - James Crane took a huge flyer on the last beat and passed 18 boats to win
the race and the regatta. Both Mauk and Hall are provisionally out of the top
