2005 Race Season ReviewYeti Kicks off Midweek Series with a Win02JUN05 - After what seemed like a month of rain, the first Thursday of the summer race series served up a sunny 85 degree afternoon with a light northerly wind. The guys on Blindspot were winners for just making the start. They undertook the 'redo the deck' project over the winter and had been waiting for a window of a couple of dry days to repaint the deck. There was no such thing in Vermont during the month of May, so they ended up finding garage space to put the final coats of Awlgrip on the deck. Enjoy your grippy new deck!
On to the race. The wind was pretty spotty. A big left shift during the start made the pin the place to be. Yeti won the pin. The wind was pretty even across the course for the first beat. Yeti took advantage of their start to round the weather mark in first with a comfortable lead. Slippery rounded in second followed by Last Kid Picked. and Downtown. The first run saw the fleet spread out across the course. Last Kid Picked was able use a small puff to work around Slippery and Yeti and round first at the leeward mark. Yeti was able to get their boat up to speed on the next beat a little quicker. They used their upwind boat speed to recapture the lead at the weather mark and were able to hold off a late charge by Last Kid Picked to win the first Thursday race of the 2005 season. Downtown rounded out the top three. Click here for full results.
